Alliance to Feed the Earth in Disasters (ALLFED) is joining forces with the Risk-informed Early Action Partnership (REAP) to strengthen the global response to severe food crises. Dedicated to developing accessible, practical food solutions for catastrophic events, ALLFED’s mission aligns closely with REAP’s goal to make early action ahead of disasters the new norm.
ALLFED seeks to secure resilient food solutions (systems, technologies, and food sources) with a focus on shocks that could deplete 5% or more of global calorie output, or access to those calories.
This new commitment to REAP will allow ALLFED to leverage its expertise in food security and resilience to contribute directly to improving early warning systems and early action through sharing expertise, good practice and innovations, developing new systems, and aiding country-specific resilience planning.
Through its engagement with REAP, ALLFED commits to:
Enhancing Early Warning Systems: ALLFED will contribute its expertise in food system resilience, effective risk communication, and backup communication strategies to make early warning systems more robust and far-reaching.
Establishing backup communication systems: Working with REAP partners, ALLFED will develop resilient communication networks that remain functional during and after disasters, ensuring the continuous flow of vital information for early response efforts.
Supporting country-specific resilience planning: ALLFED will collaborate with governments, international organizations, and key stakeholders to tailor resilient food systems and risk communication strategies to each country’s unique needs.
Sharing good practices and innovations: ALLFED will provide REAP partners with its latest research, best practices in food system resilience, and innovative solutions for early disaster response, helping to strengthen global preparedness.
ALLFED’s partnership with REAP marks a significant step forward in preparing for potential global food shortages. By focusing on proactive and sustainable strategies, ALLFED and REAP aim to secure food access for all, regardless of wealth or location.
Of the new partnership, Noah Wescombe, ALLFED’s Head of Policy, said:
"We are pleased to partner with REAP, joining other organizations collectively building resilience and driving proactive measures in anticipation of disasters. This partnership aligns with our commitment to bolstering food security in a world that is increasingly vulnerable to cascading climate risks and other serious threats. By sharing our expertise in food system resilience, founded on the work of our research team, we seek to contribute to a much-needed systemic shift toward anticipatory action, one that we believe will save lives."
Ben Webster, Head of the REAP Secretariat, added:
"We are thrilled to welcome ALLFED to REAP, as their systemic approach to food system resilience will be invaluable towards our shared mission of protecting vulnerable communities from crises. Food security is a critical component of resilience, and by integrating ALLFED's expertise, we are taking a significant step toward making early action ahead of severe crises the new global norm. This partnership exemplifies the power of collaboration across sectors, demonstrating that through collective effort, we can develop the solutions needed to safeguard lives and livelihoods with increasing climate and disaster risks."
